This is one of the most important appointments you’ll have with us, and we want to ensure it’s a stress-free experience for you. Why are orthodontic evaluations necessary?
The timing of your orthodontic treatment is very important. You may or may not be ready for treatment, and the only way we can determine this is by examining your teeth and bite. Getting a good look at your mouth will help us better understand your specific needs so that we can recommend the best treatment for your smile! You can expect this appointment to last from 45 minutes to an hour—this gives us plenty of time to get to know each other, answer your questions, and gather all the information we need.
During your consultation, Dr. Beim will evaluate your dental and orthodontic health and discuss the most appropriate treatment options, as well as the best time to begin. He’ll take your concerns, lifestyle, and goals, along with your dental development and oral hygiene into account when creating your personalized plan. We also consider your concerns, dental development, and oral hygiene to create a customized treatment plan that will give you the perfect smile for your face!
If you’re not ready to begin treatment, we’ll invite you to come back every 6-12 months so we can reevaluate your situation. If you are ready to start immediately, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to come in for diagnostic records. At every stage, your comfort is our top concern! We want you to have all the information you need to feel comfortable with the treatment process, and we’ll make every effort to answer all the questions you may have at your initial visit. 
What comes next?
Your diagnostic records appointment will consist of us taking digital scans, diagnostic photographs, and orthodontic X-rays. These allow Dr. Beim to get a good look at what’s happening underneath the gums, including the position and growth of the bones and joints. We’ll also be able to see any teeth that are still below the gum line to better guide your treatment. This information, along with your exam, will help determine the best plan for you!
Once you’ve decided on a treatment option with Dr. Beim, you’ll be scheduled for an appointment to place your braces or fit you for your first clear aligner. This usually takes about an hour, and you’ll receive an orthodontic care kit at this time. We do everything we can to make this appointment as relaxed as possible for you, and you’ll have access to our team throughout should you have any questions or concerns.
Regular visits are an important part of the orthodontic process. Depending on your treatment plan, you’ll be scheduled to see Dr. Beim every 6-8 weeks or so. We’ll check that everything is progressing as it should be and adjust your appliance if needed during these appointments. If you’re wearing braces, Dr. Beim may choose to change the wire at this time as well.
We do our best to make sure appointments are scheduled for a day and time that’s convenient for you, but we know that things can come up! If you’re running late or can’t make your appointment, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule it for you! You should continue to follow your doctor’s instructions, eat well, and practice good oral hygiene between appointments.
