Which Treatment Is right For Me?

You know you want to improve your smile and are ready to begin the journey. But with so many different options, you might wonder, “Which treatment is right for me?” Uncertainty can make anything seem scary, including orthodontic work. But at Beim Orthodontics, you can receive expert guidance and quality care that will significantly reduce your negative feelings about orthodontic work.

To help you feel more confident in your decision to begin orthodontic work, let’s discuss the different routes you could take to achieve your dream smile!

Metal Braces Are Durable!

When you picture an orthodontic patient, they are most likely wearing metal braces. For decades, metal braces have been the go-to option for almost all alignment needs, and the technological advancements made over the years have only improved them.

At Beim Orthodontics, we are thrilled to offer self-ligating braces, which means they don’t require ligatures (the colorful bands that hold the wire to the bracket). Self-ligating braces can potentially provide quicker treatment with more comfort than traditional metal braces. Some patients reported that they are easier to clean, too!

Metal braces are known for their durability, which makes them perfect for patients of all ages with more complex bite needs, such as jaw alignments or severely misaligned teeth. Their strength allows them to handle intense wire adjustments and accommodate orthodontic accessories with little to no trouble.

Note: Despite their resilience, you will need to adjust your diet if you choose this treatment option. Certain foods can damage your braces, increasing your risk of an orthodontic emergency. You must also alter your oral hygiene routine to clean your mouth thoroughly and preserve your oral health.

Clear Braces Are Aesthetic Yet Effective!

If you don’t like the look of metal braces but prefer bonded orthodontic appliances or don’t qualify for clear aligners (which we’ll get to in a moment), consider our fantastic clear braces. With their use of wires, brackets, and accessories, this treatment option is almost identical to its metal predecessor. Like braces, you have to modify your diet and oral hygiene routine to protect your health and braces.

The difference is the brackets! Instead of metal, clear braces, also known as ceramic braces, have brackets made of tooth-colored polycrystalline ceramic that creates the illusion of clear braces. This self-ligating option can treat the same issues as traditional metal braces, allowing patients of various alignment needs to improve their smile with an aesthetically pleasing look.

While they are not as fragile as the word “ceramic” might suggest, they are not as tough as metal braces. Because they require less extreme tightenings, they can take longer than metal braces to fix the same issue. Their ability to chip also means patients should be more gentle with them. For these reasons, we recommend clear braces for adults and older teenagers.

Note: Rinse your mouth with water after meals to remove any leftover residue that could discolor your brackets.

Clear Aligners Are The Best Of Both Worlds!

Let’s say you don’t have complicated or demanding bite needs. Are heavy-duty bonded appliances your only option? Nope! You might qualify for clear aligners! These transparent trays are custom-made, giving you a snug, comfortable fit that is so discreet most people won’t even know you are wearing them!

One thing we love about them is their removability! You can and should remove your aligners for eating, drinking, performing oral hygiene and tray maintenance, and even for special occasions, like an event photograph or important presentation. However, because the trays have to be worn for twenty-two hours a day, you should limit the time you spend out of your aligners.

Aligning trays are an excellent choice if you have mild to medium teeth and jaw alignment needs and desire more flexibility in your lifestyle. Because they are removable, clear aligners do not require you to change your diet, but you should rinse your mouth after meals to wash away anything that could stain your aligners. Your oral hygiene routine will stay the same, too! The only change to your hygiene routine is to clean the trays daily!

Beim Orthodontics is proud to offer clear aligners to patients of all ages through Invisalign and Spark. Before choosing this option, you need to be sure you can handle the responsibility of removable aligners. Your ability to wear and maintain your trays can make a huge difference in your experience and final result!
